Bethlehem Steel were one of seven Philadelphia-area clubs that entered the first US Open Cup in 1913 (in fact, the USFA sent out the invite on September 12, 1913).
Steel have won a total of 5 USOC titles, tied for the most all-time. They have also made the joint second-most appearances (6) in the US Open Cup final (along with Chicago Fire). Steel’s last title (and appearance in the final) was in 1926.
The USOC warmup top is a nod to the Steel's success in the tournament. The diamond logo is inspired by historical photos. The photo below shows Bethlehem Steel from one of their championship seasons.
In addition to USOC, Steel ALSO won 6 American Cups including four in a row between 1916 and 1919, and the final one ever in 1924, which is sort of like the NIT of early soccer in America in that it used to be bigger than the US Open Cup, but it was overtaken. Unlike the NIT, however, it does not still exist.
